A cracked tooth can also be the cause of toothache pain, and this is true for the same reasons as a cavity causes pain. A cracked tooth allows bacteria to enter in and exposes nerves. Whenever nerves are exposed, it can lead to pain and an increase in sensitivity in your mouth.  

You have gum disease

You might not realize that gum disease is an infection, but that is really what it is. This type of infection causes your gums to recede and can also result in pain in your mouth. If you cannot pinpoint where your pain is coming from, and if you are experiencing swelling or bleeding of your gums, you might have gum disease. If so, you will need treatment for periodontal disease if you want to save your teeth and find relief from your pain.
